Temporary transport involves extra deployment. You decide for how long. And if you want to use a car as a replacement for a lease car that it in the shop for repairs or maintenance, this is called replacement transport.
It is your choice whether or not a rental car may be used. This naturally applies to cars, vans and trucks. Generally a car is selected that is of a comparable category to the lease car.
It is common practice to allow replacement transportation if the car cannot be used for more than 24 hours. For short periods of time, drivers are often responsible for providing their own transportation. Rental cars can also be used if the lease car is in order. That is called temporary transportation.
Inform your drivers
Generally, all the agreements regarding rental cars are set out in the car policy. Please inform your drivers of these agreements. We would like to share some tips with you that can help make things run smoothly:
- If the necessity of a rental car is apparent in advance, request one in time, to ensure that your driver has a car available when he or she needs it.
- You rent cars in certain categories. This means that one of the models from the relevant category is used. Our rental firms try to meet specific requests, particularly for longer rental periods.
- The rental firms will only provide replacement transportation in the event of car breakdown if the driver can show his or her original driving licence.
- In order to avoid arguments at a later stage, we recommend that your driver checks the rental car together with the rental firm upon receipt and return. Any deviations should be communicated to the rental firm immediately, no later than 2 hours after the receipt of the car.
- The drivers is responsible for returning the rental car. Please advise him to make a note of the number under which the car is reported back.
- If your drivers use replacement cars with non-Dutch licence plates, the car has to be returned or swapped for a Dutch car on the first working day after the driver's return to the Netherlands.
- We can provide a fuel card for rental cars.
Temporary transport
Do you need a rental car for a short time, for example if your driver's new lease car is still on order? LeasePlan can arrange it for you. We always deploy new and representative cars according to a standard rental classification, allowing us to supply the same cars throughout the country. And for a small cost we will deliver or collect the car anywhere in the Netherlands.
The rental car can be returned at any time. Your drivers only have to make sure that the car's petrol tank is full (to prevent extra costs!) and that the car is delivered to the agreed place. The rate depends on the total rental period: a daily, weekly or monthly rate.
Replacement transport
With replacement transport, a representative car is deployed that is in a similar class to the lease car it replaces. If the lease car is in the shop and the car is off the road for longer than 24 hours, replacement transport is generally allowed. Whether your contract stipulates immediate deployment or deployment after 24 or 48 hours, your dealer of the repair firm will arrange replacement transport.
